Afternoon, Grace. Tell us what’s on your playlist right nowAngine de Poitrine? Or is that too obvious of an answer! I’ve been loving the new Karnivool record being a long time fan of the band, and glad that it’s finally come out! I’m also very much in anticipation of Devin Townsend’s ‘The Moth’ pending release soon too.
“The World Is Dying” came out last year, what have you been working on since then?I’ve been chipping away in the background at the next record, but I wouldn’t say to expect anything any time soon! The World is Dying took around 4 years to come together, although I do hope this next one comes around a bit faster!
You’re at The Black Heart on March 26th. Tell us what we can expect? It’s a show that’s never going to happen again. So if you miss it, you’ll miss it forever. I can promise it’ll be thoroughly entertaining, if proggy riffs are your thing! The whole lineup is truly fabulous,
How has the prep for the show gone so far?Long and stressful! There’s a lot more to putting on a show than I think your average punter things. My backing band have been learning the parts for months, refining and tweaking along the way. We’ve just had two full days of rehearsals, and are now feeling ready to rock!Being a solo artist, there’s definitely a lot that goes into the management side of putting on a show that takes up a lot of time and energy - everything from making sure the card machine works so people can buy merch, to where can the drummer park their car near the venue! All these questions need answers, and the buck stops with me so I’ve tried to be as organised as I could to make everything run smoothly.
Dea Velata and Tales Of Perdition are opening, how did that come about?I’m buddies with Dea Velatas drummer Ray Hearne (Haken) who became part of Dea Velata over the last year. Gradually I got to know the other members of the band too. The band had never gigged before, so I threw around the idea of doing a show together one day and now here we are!I then went to lean on the wonderful people in the London Metal Coalition who sent Tales of Perdition my way! I love their recent single ‘Hold Down the Hunter’, popped them a message and they were well up for gigging together! It’ll be a fun night for sure.
What’s coming up next for you?I’ve got some festival dates later on in there year! I’ll be playing Danfest in Leicester, and HRH Prog in Great Yarmouth. It’d be great to get a bit further north too, or perhaps down Bristol way. But for now we’ll have to see how things go!
